Blepharoplasty

What is a blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery to remove the extra skin and tissue that has built up over time to reduce drooping eyelids.

Who benefits from a blepharoplasty?

The ideal candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who are in good general health and understand realistic expectations after surgery.   You may benefit from eyelid surgery if you have extra skin blocking your side or top vision, your eyes constantly feel tired and  heavy or your eyes are not as open as you would like.

How can I tell if a blepharoplasty will help me?

If you have concerns with your eyelids you can schedule an appointment with Dr. Simmons for a full blepharoplasty evaluation  At this visit your peripheral vision will be measured,  photographs will be taken and a series of eyelid measurements will be collected.  Then our experienced doctor will guide you through expectations and discuss if blepharoplasty is the right surgery for you.

What can I expect with blepharoplasty surgery?

Blepharoplasty surgery is done in an outpatient setting, where you come and go in the same day.  The procedure can be done under monitored sedation or general anesthesia depending on patient health and preference.

Your eyelids will be red, swollen, irritated and possibly bruised for up to two weeks following surgery.  Complete healing can take several months.
