Nathaniel Simmons, MD

My Story

Nathaniel Simmons, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and refractive cataract surgeon.   After graduating from the Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Biology, he worked in an HIV vaccine development laboratory at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.   During this time in Boston, he completed a master’s degree in biomedical science at Tufts University School of Medicine.  Then, Dr. Simmons obtained his medical degree, graduating at the top of his class from Tufts University School of Medicine with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. As a medical student, he was awarded the Massachusetts Medical Scholar scholarship and multiple awards for citizenship. 
 
Dr. Simmons completed his internal medicine internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital and Flaum Eye Institute.   Throughout his training, Dr. Simmons published papers on various topics in ophthalmology and presented his work at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.  Dr. Simmons is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Outside of the clinic, he enjoys spending time with family, roasting coffee, cooking, and playing guitar.
